Foodstagram: Gloria’s Ihaw-Ihaw

During our business trip to Iligan (Lanao del Norte), we had a chance to taste some of their native dishes.

One of the places we tried is in Gloria’s Ihaw-Ihaw, just in the strip of Timoga Beach.

(Google maps location)

There are a lot of resorts on the same street so it’s a bit hard to notice. The nearest landmark which is almost in front of it is the Macaraeg Macapagal Ancestral House.

What’s noticeable in this restaurant is a lady chopping lechon (roasted pork) whenever you order. You can see it in my Instagram stories in ‘Iligan 2019 highlight’ (@jeromes_official). They also sell atchara (pickeled papaya) that you eat together with the lechon.

Image from iOS (18)

This Lechon is like the one in Cebu which is very tasty even without a sauce. However, the main difference is the spice that they use, seems to be a normal salt & pepper seasoning unlike in Cebu, they use a lot of spices and tanglad (lemon grass).

What’s good about this is of course, the skin, which is the best part! I don’t know how they maintain the crispiness of it despite of having it air-exposed and not even inside a food warmer.

Image from iOS (20)Another food that we ordered is a Native Chicken Tinola. What set’s this tinola (chicken stew) from the normal one is it doesn’t have papaya, only ginger, and chili leaves.

Compared to chicken that you buy here in Manila either in the market or grocery, native chicken is tastier because of the food they eat. They don’t eat chicken feeds, in humans, they eat organic food.

This type of chicken is also good when fried.

Image from iOS (19)

Of course, a Filipino meal wouldn’t be complete without rice!

Here, they call it pusรดย (hanging rice), which they do the same in Cebu. It’s made by boiling rice in a woven pouch of palm leaves.

The feel of eating this rice is like eating suman (rice cake), but without the stickiness, as it’s not made of glutinous rice. It’s a normal rice grain. Eating rice, of course, is better when hot and eating with your hand.

With regards to the price, it’s really affordable but recommended to eat in a group as it’s cheaper. The lechon and tinola are for sharing, but for the rice, you have to buy it per piece.

Ambiance, it’s beside the Timoga Beach so you will hear the waves hitting the shore. There’s also a fish pond that you can enjoy then the water where you will wash your hands comes from Maria Christina Falls.

This is a highly recommended restaurant when you visit Iligan because of its affordable price but very good quality of food.

A Stressful Place to Watch a Movie

Just today, my friend & I decided to watch a movie in Trinoma Mall, QC. It’s not our first time to watch a movie but our first time to be stressed and disappointed before watching.

I booked the movie last night, September 7 at 9:17 PM for a 3:15 PM today, and got the best seats left, J18 & J19 of Cinema 7, as shown in the photo in yellow highlight.

seats

After buying food at 3:00 PM, we headed directly to the cinema and surprised at the long queue. At the entrance, the lady usher checks the time and date of my e-ticket, double-checked our seats, then strikethrough the seat number from a paper then let us in.

While going to our seats, we saw a group of people sitting on our seat number, and that’sinline_image_preview from J17 to J22! The person sitting at our chair told us to go to the entrance guard and tell them about it as it is their seat. We went back to the entrance and asked the male usher named Francis about the issue, called their admin and heard saying “Meron na namang umupo dun sa online reserved seat.” So this means that we’re not the only one complaining. We went back to our seats, the person who holds the e-ticket on his phone showed to the usher that he bought the said seat. Though we didn’t bother to look at it and we were asked to stand on the stairs while waiting for their admin’s decision.

While the movie is about to start, about 2 more trailers to be shown, we were asked if we want to move on a different seat. I told him “Hindi pwede! Nagbook kami online, reserved the seat to get the best one available, pero may iba nakaupo!” 4 more people are complaining on the same thing, supposed to be seated on the seats taken by the said group.

The movie started at its first 2 to 3 minutes when we decided to just sit upstairs, not in the middle anymore, just right side of the cinema, and asked them to refund the ticket. After the usher confirmed it with the admin, they told us to go to the office after the movie.

logo-clickthecity-nogradient-transAfter the movie, we arranged the refund with their supervisor and said to wait for a week for it to be credited back. They will call Click The City to cancel it, then process the refund. We asked why did that happen, the supervisor is a bit rattled and answered that it’s the website’s fault and might have an issue with the system when people are booking at that time. From the way he answered, it seems that he’s covering one of their personnel’s fault. What we thought is that that group booked chairs apart from each other, then requested to get a straight line of seats. Isn’t that ridiculous that the cinema allowed it if that’s the case?

Good thing they allowed us to do a refund and didn’t go through a more serious and otime-consuming arrangement. Thank you Trinoma Mall by Ayala but please have this issues addressed immediately so that no one would have the same experience.

For now, I don’t have any plans of watching in Trinoma Mall and would rather go to Vertis North even though it’s more pricey. If ever that happens to you, know the real situation and demand what should be given to you due to inconvenience.

EargasMusic: Fifth Harmony – That’s My Girl

Not a new song, but my head just keeps on moving to the bassย beat of this song.

Another product of a reality-TV singing competition (X-Factor US: Season 2), they auditioned as soloists but not able to get further the competition. Simon Cowell and Demi Lovato then decided to put them into one group, and finished third place on the show.

Just last night, they held their concert “The 7/27 Tour” here in Manila at the MOA Arena concert grounds with The Filharmonic as their front act, a Filipino-American all-male acapella group from the US reality-TV singing competition “The Sing-Off: Season 4“. Since Camila Cabelloย left the group last December 2016, only four of them continued the group but still rockin’ it!

Below is the music video of Fifth Harmony’s “That’s My Girl“.

Seeing the list of players, it’s hard to root for someone as all of them have their own strengths and weakness and like other fanatics, we all know them and how they play. There are also 3 winners playing (Sandra, JT and Tony), Sandra winning twice so these are the major threats that I’m seeing this season. Will they be voted off earlier than we think? We’ll let’s see.

The first episode is almost 1:30, just like the usual pilot episodes and this is the 500th episode. This means there are 2 immunity games and 2 tribal councils!

Game_changers_immunity_idol.pngWhat’s new in this season? Of course, the tribe’s Immunity Idol. Let’s just wait for the individual and immunity idol on how they look like. But I’m expecting a better one. This season’s immunity idol is not “tribal-ish”, if there’s a term as such because it’s a vintage diving helmet. Never in my mind expected it to look like that.

Another new this season is the if there’s a tie in a vote, there is no re-vote. A tie breaker will be made. So that means if there’s a unanimous decision on who to vote out, then the person goes home. But if not, the people on tie will be safe, and the remaining will need to draw rocks. Isn’t that exciting?!!!

1st Immunity Challenge: Of course, the last part of the challenge is the most exciting, especially if it’s the puzzle making. They have to finish a ship’s wheel puzzle, the challenge where Ciera was beaten by her mother. Ciera is with Sandra, while Zeek is with Cirie. Mana tribe was able to catch up at the puzzle making part but still, the Nuku tribe defeated them.

98210941c2718039_ciera_eastin_survivor1.jpg
1st Tribal Council
:
Since Tony and Sandra are in the losing tribe, they tend to be close to each other as to shield themselves in being voted off. So Tony’s plan is to do such, with Malcolm, Aubry, Sandraand Caleb who he think are the strong players of the tribe. Knowing Ciera as the scheming one and who is a master of plotting, she then pitched Tony’s name to be voted off. With this, the others are thinking why not vote Ciera out early in this game or they will be handpicked one by one. While Ciera is around during a group conversation, they said that they want Michaela gone, which Ciera agreed. Michaela, who has her bitchy girl mode switched on, is making faces and feeling uneasy on why is her name being brought up. It’s like she’s being the sacrificial lamb. Everyone in the tribe are now thinking to vote her off now if she’s being so emotional. But in the end, the first casualty of this season is Ciera.

2nd Immunity Challenge: So before the day of the immunity challenge, while Tony is making his ‘spy bunker’ near the well, he heard Troyzan and Sandra talking about him while sneaking. He came out of the darkness and confronted the two. And of course, they have to make stories. At that point, Tony thinks that Sandra is ditching him, loser her loyalty to him. And now the battle of the champions began. So no one would like to go home early, so they have to regroup. Now, in the immunity challenge, ย Nuku is still ahead of the race but not until the tossing of the rings where Malcolm of the Mana tribe doing it on his own, was able to catch up with Sierra and JT. Malcolm, feeling a bit tired, asked by Michaela if he needs help, but still wanted to continue. Knowing Michaela who doesn’t want to lose challenges, is a bit frustrated as there are only two rings left for the other tribe to shoot to win. But JT, who is under pressure who’s on tie with Malcolm, finished it and won the tribe’s 2nd challenge.ย

maxresdefault.jpg2nd Tribal Council: Being a two-time winner, Sandra is really a big threat into the game. So before the tribal council, she was able to convince to vote off Tony who they think is a bigger threat as he is on the side of choosing who to leave and then everyone will follow. But then again, Sandra was successful, having to send Tony home very early. So no ‘spy bunker’ anymore and looking for immunity idols.

Foodstagram: Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun

This is one of the best custard bun that I’ve tasted, Din Tai Fung’sย Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk Bun.

First time I’ve tasted this was in Din Tai Fung Singapore (Tampines) and one local restaurant in Bugis. The price is Bugis is cheaper and has a compared to Din Tai Fung’s ๐Ÿ˜‰

What I love about it is the lava-like flow of the salted egg custard after biting the bun! Some might taste the strong fresh-like taste of the egg (like my mom) but for me it’s normal. The secret is to balance that taste with the saltiness of the salted egg and the buttery sweetness of the custard. Just to comment, the bun is better tasting in Singapore compared to here in the Philippines. I don’t think it met the consistency of the custard’s texture and taste.ย

If you haven’t tried it, try it now! Make sure that you eat it while it’s still hot, to experience the flow of the custard from the bun. Also, if you have suggestions on restos who serve good salted egg yolk bun, please do share. Enjoy! ๐Ÿ˜Š

EargasMusic: DK Tijam – Himala

Just on his return to the Philippines, Star in a Million Season 1 finalist, DK Tijam sang a Soul R&Bย version of Rivermaya’s “Himala” inside the Wish 107.5ย bus! Just so sad I was not able to watch his concert in Teatrino in Greenhills, San Juan. Hoping for another one and can bring all the SIAM finalists back in one stage!

Still looking forward to more covers of my co- San Juanero and hopefully he’ll be back in the Philippines for good.ย

Here is the video of his perfomance.

Bravo DK and more power! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Foodstagram: Going back to 90’s chichirya…

Can’t remember when was the last time I’ve tasted these but I was still small. I didn’t enjoy eating a lot of these since my mom refused me to do so. You know, ‘junk foods are not good for your health’ ahahaha!

Squid Rings is a squid flavored ring chips. Itย has a bigger and different packaging now. I love it’s sweet and a bit spicy flavor. Now, it’s more on the sweet-squidy taste. I don’t know if the manufacturers are the same as before but the flavour before is way better. Also, I don’t know if I’ve bought an old manufactured product (didn’t check the label ๐Ÿ˜‚) but it’s not crunchy anymore. ‘Lasang luma’ though I’ve bought a couple of times, its all the same…sadly. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Pritos Ring is a barbeque flavored ring chips. Luckily, it tastes still the same but the pacaking is so small for you to enjoy it. Bitin! Unlike the Squid Rings, it doesn’t taste expired ahahaha! ๐Ÿ˜‚

So what’s your favorite 90’s snack? ๐Ÿ˜Š

Foodstagram: Melona Honeydew Melon Icecream Bar

I can’t remember when was the last time I’ve eaten one of these. I think it’s more than 7yrs?

This was introduced to me by one of my colleague who’s Koreanovela fanatic. We went to a Korean store in Pearl Drive, Ortigas and was just surprised of tons of Korean goodies!ย

The taste of the melon is not too strong, maybe because of the cream and milk mixed in it. I advice to have it totally frozen so it won’t melt easily.ย

It’s a bit pricey compared to local brands because it’s from Korea but nonetheless, it’s worth the price. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next time, I’ll try the strawberry and mango flavour! Yum!ย

Foodstagram: Fried Chicken Skin

When my mom was removing the chicken breast from the bones, I asked her to take off the skin so that I can make my favourite snack… Fried Chicken Skin!ย

We used to buy it in the streets but since sellers seem to be missing for months now, I decided to make my own. A few salt, pepper and some breading mix…voila! It’s now ready to fry and eat!

When eating these, you can dip it in chilli-vinegar (red chillies soaked in vinegar), salt and pepper. After everything is consumed, drink the remaining vinegar! Woohoo!

Craving satisfied! ๐Ÿ˜Š
